Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Tuesday, that 84,618 received free medical services and treatment through 73 medical convoys nationwide during the first half of July.
These convoys came as part of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's "Decent Life" initiative, to provide free medical services to remote areas deprived of health services.
In a statement, Zayed said that the convoys were implemented with the participation of 645 clinics. She noted that 13,713 blood, parasite, and x-ray analyses were conducted. Alongside this, 17,513 health education seminars were held to raise health awareness among.
The minister pointed out that 1,175 cases have been transferred to hospitals for surgical operations and medical treatment, paid for by the state and health insurance.
The convoys aim to facilitate the provision of required medical treatment to the elderly, children, and people with special needs, according to Dr Wafaa Al-Sadiq, Director General of Medical Convoys at the Ministry of Health and Population.
Al-Sadiq said that medical examinations were conducted on: 5,959 in Aswan; 5,668 in Assiut; 3,716 in Alexandria; 1,545 in Ismailia; 1,491 in Luxor; 1,394 in the Red Sea; 6,935 in Beheira; 5,260 in Giza; 4,259 in Daqahleya; 626 in Suez; 4,112 in Sharqeya; 2,441 in Gharbeya; and 2,905 in Fayoum.
She added that the service was also provided to: 5,685 in Cairo; 5,569 in Qaliubiya; 4,933 in Menoufiya; 3,101 in Minya; 2,083 in New Valley; 4,079 in Beni Suef; 1,290 in South Sinai; 4,088 in Damietta; 3,944 in Sohag; 1,100 in Qena Governorate; 3,487 in Kafr El-Sheikh; and 798 in Matrouh.
Al-Sadiq noted the Ministry of Health and Population's keenness to continue organising medical convoys nationwide.
This would take into account the commitment to all precautionary and preventive measures against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while providing medical services.
