Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed said on Sunday that free medical examination and treatment was offered to 1,803,204 citizens through 1468 medical convoys nationwide during the past year of 2019, according to a statement.
These convoys were part of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's “Decent Life” initiative, which aimed at providing free medical services to citizens in remote and deprived areas of health services.
The convoys stopped at 13,127 clinics, which conducted around 261,707 tests, analyses, and x-rays, and held 40,470 health education seminars to raise health awareness among citizens.
Around 25,262 cases were transferred to hospitals for surgical operations, where some cases were provided with full or partial coverage by the state.
Wafaa Al-Sadiq, Director General of the Medical Convoys in the Ministry, said that these convoys aim to provide health care for hard to reach elderly persons, children, and people with special needs.
Last week, Zayed revealed that 334,339 operations were carried out until 24 December as part of a presidential initiative to shorten the waiting list for state-funded surgeries, including catheter operations, heart surgeries, brain and nerve surgeries, orthopaedics, oncological surgeries, and vascular surgeries.
Zayed also said the ministry had established 1,340 health units in 27 governates amid an initiative to detect and treat hearing loss among new-borns.
Since its launch, the initiative examined 219,918 new-borns from the age of one day to 28 days old.
