11.5% hike in Egypt's exports in 2018: CAPMAS The CAPMAS added in its annual bulletin of foreign trade 2018 that the total value of exports of non-petroleum reached $24.6bn in 2018, up from $22.5bn in 2017, an increase of 9.3%.
Total value of Egypt's exports increased $29.3bn in 2018, compared to $26.3bn in 2017, a hike of 11.5%, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The CAPMAS added in its annual bulletin of foreign trade 2018 that the total value of exports of non-petroleum reached $24.6bn in 2018, up from $22.5bn in 2017, an increase of 9.3%. "Total value of exports of petroleum and electricity reached $4.7bn in 2018, up from $3.8bn in 2017, a hike of 23.7%," according to the CAPMAS. The CAPMAS further revealed that the crude oil exports increased by 2%, reaching $2.19bn in 2018, up from only $2.09bn in 2017. In terms of the ready-made clothes, the CAPMAS mentioned that the sector's exports increased by 8.2%, reaching $1.6bn in 2018, compared to $1.5bn in 2017. "For petroleum products, its exports increased by 52.9% to reach $1.5bn in 2018, compared to $1bn in 2017," according to the CAPMAS. The CAPMAS revealed that Italy came first on the list of the countries that receive Egypt's exports, representing 7% of Egypt's total exports, followed by Turkey by 6.9%. Meanwhile, the UAE ranked third, accounting for 6.8% of Egypt's total exports, followed by the USA, representing 5.9% of the country's total exports. In terms of the economic blocs that highly receive Egypt's exports, the Arab countries ranked first, accounting for 32.5% of the total exports, followed by Western Europe by 27.4%, then Eastern Europe by 13.2%. On the other hand, the CAPMAS revealed that the total value of Egypt's imports reached $81.9bn in 2018, up from $66.9bn in 2017, an increase of 23.1%. "Non-petroleum imports increased from $56.6bn in 2017 to $69.6bn in 2018, an increase of 23%," according to the CAPMAS. Moreover, the CAPMAS showed out that Egypt's oil and electricity imports increased to reach $12.3bn in 2018, up from $10bn in 2017, a hike of 23%. The CAPMAS also revealed that China came first on the list of the countries that Egypt imports from the most, representing 14.1% of Egypt's total imports, followed by Saudi Arabia accounting for 6.9% of the state's total imports. USA came in the third place, accounting for 6.7% of total imports, followed by Russia, representing 6.1% of the total imports. In terms of the economic blocs from which Egypt imports, the Asian countries ranked first by 26.4% of total imports, followed by Western Europe by 24.5%, then Eastern Europe by 18.1%.
