Egypt submits final recordings related to Regeni case to Italian authorities
Egyptian, Italian investigation team to follow up investigations

Egypt's Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek said in a statement on Tuesday that the prosecution issued a copy of the final recordings and investigation documents regarding the disappearance and murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni to Italian authorities.
Italian and Egyptian investigation teams met in Cairo during the past two weeks to view all the data collected on the case during investigations.
The investigation documents submitted to the Italian side were conducted last week by Egyptian authorities.
The statement added that there are more meetings scheduled to continue following up on the investigation.
Similarly, on Tuesday, Sadek discussed in a phone call with his Italian counterpart the ongoing cooperation into the case, for which Italy's top prosecutor expressed appreciation.
Sadek asserted the cooperation would continue until the perpetrators who were behind Regeni's death are referred to a criminal court, according to the statement.
Regeni was a Cambridge scholar completing research in Cairo for his PhD on the nature of political and economic developments, and particularly on the conditions of labour unions in Egypt. He disappeared on the fifth anniversary of the 25 January revolution, according to his friends.
On 3 February 2016, his body was found dumped on the side of a road outside Cairo, showing signs of physical torture, such as cigarette burns and bruises.
Bilateral relations between Egypt and Italy have strained over the murder. In April 2016, Italy decided to recall its ambassador to Egypt for failing to provide substantial findings in the investigations, but later he returned in August 2017. In June 2016, the Italian side decided to further escalate and cut military aid to Egypt.
