The Egyptian German Electrical Manufacturing Company (EGEMAC) started 2018 with contracts and business valued at EGP 1.4bn, with plans to raise that figure by 15% by the end of the year. Medhat Ramadan, chairperson of EGEMAC and XD-EGEMAC, said the business value of the two companies reached EGP 3.5bn at the end of 2017. XD-EGEMAC for high voltage equipment is an Egyptian joint stock company established in 2009, becoming one of the leading companies in the field of high voltage and ultra-high voltage alternative and direct current (AC/DC) in China. Ramadan said that EGEMAC has established a new company to produce all low voltage distribution equipment as part of its work to integrate between all efforts of transport and distribution. He stated that the new company Chint EGEMAC was established in cooperation with China's Chint, with a share of 49% for EGEMAC and 51% for Chint. He noted that despite China's company owning the larger share, any decision will have to be subject to the approval of an EGEMAC representative. Chint produces all kinds of equipment for distribution networks with a current of up to 4,000 amperes. He added that companies are currently expanding their projects in the field of electrical equipment through the design and implementation of transformer stations with voltages of 66, 220, and 500 kV. He noted that XD-EGEMAC will open two new factories in Ain Sokhna during March with investments of EGP 450m. One will be the first factory in Egypt to produce gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) up to 500 kV, while the second factory will produce transformers with voltage up to 220 kW with a capacity of 175 megavolt-amperes. The production capacity of the factories will reach 60 transformers per year up to 500 kV. He said that the XD-EGEMAC will complete four transformer substations in Benban, Aswan to transmit energy produced from solar power plants by the end of February. He explained that the company has completed the establishment of a transformer station, and will start to transmit electricity at the second station in the next 20 days. The company has embarked on installing and testing for the second station and will work on the fourth station within days. He pointed out that the company will start the installation work for the substation for Ebny Beitak (Build Your Home) projects and will begin by the end of June. Moreover, he said that XD-EGEMAC has seized the tenders for the East Qena and Nag Hammadi transformer substations and will start working on them next month. He added that the rise in prices of raw materials affects the profits and sales of the company by between 15 and 20%. He pointed out that EGEMAC, XD-EGEMAC, and Chint EGEMAC aim to expand in the Middle East and Africa, noting that the latter received requests from companies in Ethiopia and plans to sign agreements with them in the coming period.
