A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority (DPA) has showed an increase in the number of jetties in the port by 15.5% during June 2017 compared to June 2016. According to the report, the number of jetties on the platforms of Damietta port increased to 231 in June 2017, compared to 200 in the same period of 2016. The number of general cargo ships has noticeably increased during June by nearly 40.5%, where they increased from 37 in June 2016 to 52 in June 2017. Dry bulk vessels have also increased by 21.6%.
DPA's report showed an increase in the volume of the traded cargo in the port by 5.6%, compared to the same period of 2016, where the volume reached 2.9 million tonnes in June 2017, compared to 2.7 million tonnes in June 2016.
The report showed a significant growth in general cargo exports by 47% last June compared to the same period of 2016, where the volume of exported cargo increased from 453,500 tonnes in June 2016 to 666,500 in June 2017, with a 213,000-tonne increase with support from the rise in exported amounts of molasses and salt.
According to DPA's report, the number of equivalent containers traded through the port has increased by 32.2% compared to June 2016. The number of containers traded through the port increased from 71,000 in June 2016 to reach 92,800 in June 2017.
DPA revealed that the number of vessels received by the port during 2016 increased by 8% since 2015. The number of vessels increased from 2,357 vessels in 2015 to 2,562 vessels during 2016. The report attributed the apparent increase to the increased number of dry bulk ships by 46%, with an increase of 472 vessels during 2015 to reach 690 ships in 2016.
The increase in the amount of exported methanol was 371.5%. Exported quantities of methanol rose from 117,100 tonnes in 2015 to 552,200 tonnes in 2016.
