Etisalat Misr and Intel launched a new smartphone, the Etisalat E-20, in Egypt on Tuesday. The handset will be available at all Etisalat stores across Egypt, and will be powered by the 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor. It will be equipped with the Android operating system. The phone features a 3.5-inch touchscreen, FM radio capabilities, and an expandable memory slot, as well as modem support using Intel's XMM 6265 modem for global roaming. The product was launched at an event on Tuesday which was attended by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy. The smartphone targets the growing number of smartphone buyers in Egypt, according to a joint press release on Monday. Both companies said the growing market for mobile telephony in Egypt, which “witnessed an annual growth rate of 14.19% compared to 2011", was the motive behind the decision to launch the device in the country. “We are optimistic about this partnership, and believe it will be fruitful for both of us," said Etisalat Misr CEO Saeed El-Hamli. “We are delighted to partner with Etisalat Misr to bring the first smartphone with Intel inside to Egyptian consumers," said Mike Bell, vice president and general manager of Intel's Mobile and Communications group. The device includes a five megapixel camera with a “burst mode" feature allowing users to capture seven pictures in one second.
