CAIRO: The Administrative Court obliged Wednesday the Egyptian government to give those injured during the Jan. 25 revolt an urgent exceptional monthly pension specified according to their injuries, regardless of other sources of income they may have. The case, filed by lawyers of the Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights (ECESR), dates back to a decision by Cabinet to give families of the revolution's martyrs' a monthly pension and the interior minister's decision to include the martyrs in the police force to the pension recipient. The injured policemen were also awarded pensions. "The revolt's injured were waiting for a similar treatment but all went in vain,” ECESR said in a statement Wednesday describing the reasons why it filed the case. “The sacrifice [they] made … can't be denied, especially that many of them are now quadriplegic.” “We seek to bring justice to those injured and contribute to alleviating their suffering,” the statement added. The center condemned the government's “immoral, inhumane and illegal” way of dealing with the injured, which led them to stage several demonstrations that culminated in the Mohamed Mahmoud Street events, which resulted in more martyrs and added new injured to the list. "It is essential that every injured receives a monthly pension according to the level of injury that prevents many from earning their living," the statement added.
