Health minister expects swine flu cases to reach 3,000 in two months

CAIRO: Egypt's Minister of Health Hatem Al-Gabaly, announced in a press statement Sunday that the number of H1N1 flu cases in Egypt is expected to rise to 3,000 within the coming two months.
Until press time on Sunday, the ministry had reported five new cases of the global pandemic virus, raising the total of cases in Egypt to 39.
Official spokesman of Ministry of Health Abdel Rahman Shahin said that the new cases are: a six-year-old Egyptian female who arrived from US on June 19; a nine-year-old Canadian-Egyptian male who also arrived with his family from Canada on June 19, and his sister a seven-year-old Canadian-Egyptian who arrived to Cairo from US on the same day; a 66-year-old Egyptian woman who arrived from the US on June 15; and a 10-year-old Egyptian-American girl who arrived from US on June 18 and caught the flu after interacting with case number 33.
On Saturday evening, the Ministry of Health had announced the 34th case of H1N1 in an 11-year-old Egyptian-American girl who arrived in Egypt on June15 and first experienced flu-like symptoms on June17.
On Saturday morning the Ministry of Health had declared the 33rd case, a six-year-old Egyptian-American who arrived from the US on June 18. The case was detected at the airport.
By press time Sunday the Ministry of Health announced that 26 cases have completely recovered while 13 remain hospitalized.
According to the World Health Organization's latest update, the total number of H1N1 confirmed cases is 44,287 including 180 deaths in 95 countries.
