The seven best summer dates in and around Cairo
Published in Daily News Egypt on 22 - 08 - 2008

What do you want to do tonight? This has become the question Egyptian couples are dreading these days. But what is there to do except for going to the movies, dinner or to a club? Couples are running out of ideas and the end of the carefree summer is approaching fast. Good advice would be to take advantage of those last summer moments without restricting dates to nighttime activities. In fact, the keys to a successful romantic and fun date are flexibility and a sense of humor. Keep reading our list of the seven best summer dates and most probably we won't be hearing from you again until the summer is over.
1. Be a tourist
Most people tend to avoid the heat of the day and only go out at night, when the air has cooled down. Work against your instincts for once and start your day early, visiting tourist attraction after tourist attraction. You and your date will not only learn about each others interests and passions, but you will also get the chance to see your country through tourist eyes. You can sit down on a bench in front of the Egyptian Museum and enjoy a round of "tourist watching. You won't believe how much fun this can be.
2. Day at the beach
Surprise your date. Call him or her really early in the morning and tell them to pack a bathing suit. What your partner doesn't have to know is that you have made reservations at a diving school (for example in Ain Sukhna).
Spend a whole day there, enjoying the underwater world, sunbathing, eating and drinking. I guarantee you will have a blast.
3. Couch potatoes
This is the easiest entertainment you can have. Meet in the late afternoon at your date's house and bring all the ingredients for a pizza. Make the pizza, put it in the oven and spend the rest of the day and evening just watching one movie after the other, while eating delicious homemade pizza.
4. Horseback riding
Take a risk and go horseback riding in the desert by the Pyramids at night.
The horses and you will have cooled down after a hot day. And you and your date will get to fly over the sand dunes, ending up with adrenalin-filled veins and a smile on your face.
5. Nile Romance
Prepare a picnic and take a felouka boat ride in the evening. Far away from traffic, hectic Cairo becomes the Paris of the Middle East, sparkling with lights and romance. It will certainly be a night to remember.
6. Beauty day
This is slightly unusual but if you keep an open mind you will be highly rewarded. Book a day in a spa for you and your man or woman. After getting pampered with head-massages and a new haircut, go out for a really fancy dinner. It will be like a first date with all the excitement and compliments that you have lately been missing.
7. The list
Each one makes a list of 10 things he or she still wants to do in their life and gives it to the other person. The partner picks one of the things on the list and makes it happen. This way, you get to share a unique experience with your date that will definitely bring you closer to each other.
