CAIRO: Members of Egypt's General Coalition of Police Officers said in a statement on Sunday that the “negligence of the officials from the ministry of interior and their failure in securing a match, did not impact only citizens, but had a negative impact on all police officers, who are not related to the policies of the minister of interior and his top aides.” The Coalition said in the statement that 25 of its members along with the Major General Abdul Latif el–Bedeini were prompted by the recent events in Port Said, where football violence and security's failure to intervene led to the death of more than 75 fans of the al–Ahly club, and submitted a communication to the Attorney General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud, Speaker of Parliament Mohammed Saad el–Katatni and Prime Minister Kamal Ganzouri, against Minister of Interior Major General Mohammed Ibrahim, the Assistant Minister for Security, the former Security Director of Port Said, former Director of Investigations of Port Said, and the Assistant Minister for Public Security, as well as the Governor of Port Said, Assistant Secretary of the Central Security of the Suez Canal Zone for their “responsibility for the massacre of Port Said.” The Communication, no. 344 of the year 2012, stated that what happened in Port Said “had left serious repercussions on the police who are performing their role in protecting police facilities, in the aftermath of the carnage, as a result of the failed policies pursued by the Minister of Interior and his top aides.” The members of the coalition also noted that they hold the Minister and his top aides “responsible for the killing of innocent Ultras,” and called on these officials not to “subject them to persecution,” noting the ministry resorted to punitive measures against the coalition as a result of their calls to purge the ministry from corrupt officials and the “administrative failure” within the ministry. The coalition also demanded the prosecution of all police officers found to be involved in criminal offenses during the era of Hosni Mubarak and former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly, such as “forging elections and arbitrary arrests of innocent people without legal basis.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/PDw5L Tags: Ahly, featured, Police, Ultras Section: Egypt, Latest News
