CAIRO: Again, the Egyptian government has denied a rocket fired on the Israeli port town of Eilat originated in the country's Sinai Peninsula. According to security officials on Monday, the Egyptian government is saying the rocket that fell near Eilat and in Aqaba, did not come from Egypt. One security source said that Israel's assertions that the rocket came from militant organizations in Sinai was “untrue” and that Egypt is not home to radical and violent groups. The Egyptian military has a strong presence in Sinai, since a 1979 peace deal with the Jewish state, but it does limit its presence. The government in recent years has bolstered their police presence along the lengthy desert border with Israel in an attempt to stop African migrants from entering the Jewish state. In April this year, rockets were fired into Israel, landing near Eilat. There were no casualties reported as the rockets fell in an uninhabited area inside Jordan. According to sources at the time, one rocket landed near the Jordanian town of Aqaba, also on the Red Sea and directly next to Eilat, while the other rocket found its way to the sea. BM
