Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed an agreement on Tuesday to resume technical cooperation following high-level talks in Cairo brokered by Egypt, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty hosted his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and IAEA's Director General Rafael Grossi for consultations focused on Iran's nuclear programme, the statement added. The deal includes practical steps for verification at Iranian nuclear facilities and enhanced transparency measures, marking what officials described as a new framework for rebuilding trust between Iran and the IAEA. Both Araghchi and Grossi thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for sponsoring the meeting and praised Cairo's role in facilitating the agreement. Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khalaf said the consultations were part of Egypt's recent diplomatic push to reduce tensions and prepare the ground for renewed nuclear negotiations. He added that Abdel-Atty had engaged in intensive talks with both sides in recent months to narrow differences and secure an accord. The negotiations, launched in June with Egypt's mediation, culminated in the signing of the cooperation resumption deal on Tuesday. The agreement is expected to open the way for a new phase in Iran-IAEA relations and support efforts to boost regional and global stability. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
