Asian markets rose on Monday following Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's suggestion in his annual speech in Jackson Hole that the central bank may start easing monetary policy next month. Mainland China's CSI 300 continued its upward trend for the fourth day in a row, rising by 2.08 per cent to close at 4,469.22 after reaching a 37-month peak earlier in the day. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 1.94 per cent to 25,829.91, nearing a four-year high. Zijin Mining Group and NetEase led the gains with 6.38 per cent and 6.04 per cent increases, respectively. Taiwan's Taiex index surged 2.16 per cent to 24,277.38. South Korea's Kospi index climbed 1.3 per cent to 3,209.86, while the Kosdaq rose 1.98 per cent to 798.02. Japan's Nikkei 225 increased by 0.41 per cent to 42,807.82, and the Topix index went up by 0.15 per cent to 3,105.49. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 closed flat at 8,972.40 after briefly crossing 9,000.
