Asia-Pacific markets posted a mixed performance on Tuesday as investors digested record highs on Wall Street and assessed the looming expiration of a 90-day US tariff reprieve under President Donald Trump's trade policy. Mainland China's CSI 300 index edged up 0.17 per cent to close at 3,942.76. Investor sentiment was lifted after the Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing PMI for June came in at 50.4, beating Reuters' forecast of 49 and indicating a return to expansion. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 1.24 per cent to end at 29,986.33, retreating after touching an 11-month high in the previous session. The broader Topix index slipped 0.73 per cent to 2,832.07. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.58 per cent to 3,089.65, while the Kosdaq index added 0.28 per cent to finish at 783.67. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was flat at 8,451.10.
