Most markets in the Asia-Pacific region rose on Monday, as investors closely monitored Chinese stocks. Mainland China's CSI 300 ended the day 0.24 per cent lower at 3,996.79, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index increased 0.77 per cent in the last hour of trading. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 benchmark closed the day 0.93 per cent higher at 37,396.52, and the Topix index rose 1.19 per cent to end at 2,748.12. In South Korea, the Kospi index rose by 1.73 per cent to end the day at 2,610.69, and the small-cap Kosdaq increased 1.26 per cent to 743.51. India's Nifty 50 index rose by 0.35 per cent, and the BSE Sensex increased by 0.26 per cent at 1:20 p.m. local time. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 closed the day 0.83 per cent higher at 7,854.10.
