Egypt's Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat held a meeting with Tshilidzi Marwala, rector of the United Nations University, to explore avenues of cooperation on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), the ministry reported on Thursday. Talks focused on strengthening joint efforts in research and innovation, in line with the university's mission since its founding in 1975 to build bridges between scientific institutes worldwide and support sustainable development, particularly in the Global South. Al-Mashat underscored Egypt's commitment to deepening partnerships with UN bodies and international institutions to advance sustainability goals. She highlighted national efforts to localise technology, implement an artificial intelligence strategy, and establish a national AI council to keep pace with global technological advances. She also welcomed closer collaboration with the UN University as part of Egypt's longstanding role as a founding member of the United Nations. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English Subediting: M. S.
