Egypt's National Railways Authority (ENR) operated its fifth special train to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt, the Cabinet has announced in a statement. Train No. 1940 departed Cairo on August 17, 2025, carrying Sudanese families to Aswan. Passengers received support and comfort, with assistance at stations, help for the elderly, safe conditions onboard, and a special carriage for luggage. The ENR added that, due to increasing demand for the voluntary return programme, it is coordinating with Sudanese authorities to schedule additional trains in the coming period. The initiative, the statement said, reflects the depth of historical and people-to-people ties between Egypt and Sudan, while standing as a model of humanitarian solidarity and cooperation at both the official and popular levels. The train was scheduled to reach Aswan's High Dam station at 11:10 pm on Sunday and depart as Train No. 1945 (third-class air-conditioned) from Aswan at 8:30 pm on Monday, August 18, arriving in Cairo at 9:25 am the next morning.
