Egypt's manufacturing, extractive industries index rises 13.5% in May: CAPMAS

Egypt's manufacturing and extractive industries index rose 13.5 per cent in May 2025 to 132.17 (preliminary), up from 116.50 in April (final), the state statistics agency CAPMAS said Wednesday.
The index excludes crude oil and petroleum products.
Beverage manufacturing posted the strongest growth, surging 40.9 per cent to 613.43 in May from 435.31 in April, driven by seasonal demand ahead of the summer.
Tobacco manufacturing also rose sharply, up 35 per cent to 175.28, reflecting higher domestic consumption.
By contrast, food manufacturing edged down 0.35 per cent to 143.93 due to lower seasonal output, including sugar. Basic metals manufacturing fell 2.40 per cent to 63.37 amid a slowdown in rebar production, CAPMAS added.
