0.6% increase in manufacturing, extractive index in November 2017: CAPMAS
Published in Daily News Egypt on 18 - 01 - 2018

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) issued metadata on the production index of manufacturing and extractive industries for November 2017.
The index of manufacturing and extractive industries (excluding crude oil and petroleum products) reached 137.37 points during November 2017 compared to 136.53 in October 2017, an increase of 0.6% due to the rise in food production (sugar and oils).
CAPMAS stated that the manufacture of food products index reached 189.88 during November, compared to 151.08 in October 2017, an increase of 25.08% due to increased cooking oil production and the start of seasonal production of sugar cane factories.
Moreover, the index of manufacture of computers, electronics, and optical products reached 177.91 points during November, compared to 174.56 during February 2017, an increase of 1.9% due to the increase in sales of photocopy machines and the signed contracts for the production of water metres, gas and electricity.
The index of the beverage industry recorded 99.12 in November, compared to 168.42 points in October 2017, a decrease of 41.1%, due to a decline in demand for soda and mineral water during the winter, according to the CAPMAS.
The index of manufacture of chemicals and chemical products reached 140.81 during November, compared to 160.26 points during October, a decline of 12.1%, due to the decline of raw materials reserves and the halt of fertiliser production unit.
