Egypt's Ministers of Electricity and Petroleum on Monday reaffirmed their integrated energy plan, with a focus on securing fuel supplies and stabilising the national power grid as electricity demand surges during the summer months. Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi met to review operational strategies and fuel coordination mechanisms between their ministries. The discussions aimed to ensure uninterrupted power generation amid soaring temperatures and increasing consumption levels. Esmat emphasised the importance of continuous coordination to improve electricity quality and maintain grid stability, particularly during peak demand periods. He also highlighted progress in fuel efficiency, reduced reliance on traditional energy sources, and the integration of 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy into the grid ahead of the current summer season. The meeting reviewed dynamic procedures and contingency plans for fuel supply, alongside indicators showing higher energy demand compared to last year's peak. Joint committees are monitoring performance in real time to support power stations with the necessary fuel supplies. Esmat noted that under Egypt's national energy strategy, the government aims to lower fuel consumption to less than 65 grams of oil equivalent per kilowatt-hour while boosting service quality and expanding storage solutions to ensure network stability. Badawi, for his part, reiterated the petroleum sector's efforts to meet the electricity sector's needs, particularly in supplying gas and mazut based on pre-identified requirements. He stressed the importance of proactive planning and inter-ministerial coordination to address the challenges posed by unusually high summer temperatures and safeguard energy security.
