Egypt has activated an emergency plan to manage its energy supply after regional military escalation disrupted natural gas imports from the east, the petroleum ministry said on Friday. As part of the contingency measures, the government has suspended natural gas supplies to select industrial sectors and increased reliance on fuel oil (mazut) and diesel at power stations to maintain electricity grid stability. The ministry said one of three floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) recently docked in Egypt is already injecting gas into the national grid. The other two are being prepared and connected to port infrastructure to begin operations shortly. The national gas network remains stable, and fuel oil reserves are sufficient, the ministry added. A round-the-clock operations room continues to monitor developments closely. Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy visited Ain Sokhna Port to oversee the rapid connection of the third FSRU, while he and the electricity minister also inspected the National Gas Control Centre. Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly held a meeting with Minister Badawy and Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat to review the latest updates and ensure implementation of the emergency energy response plan.
