Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held a high-level meeting to review joint action plans to ensure stable electricity supply and fuel availability during the summer season, in line with the government's sustainable development strategy. The meeting focused on reinforcing coordination between the two ministries to meet the rising energy demand as temperatures increase and power loads peak. The ministers reviewed sector-specific plans, readiness measures, and alternative scenarios to maintain grid stability and ensure continuous electricity supply. Badawi highlighted the petroleum sector's efforts to supply the required quantities of gas and mazut to the electricity sector. These include upgrading infrastructure at Ain Sokhna Port to receive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and regasify it for injection into the national grid, as well as securing mazut supplies. He also praised the ongoing cooperation and round-the-clock coordination between both ministries, noting that proactive scenario planning is in place to address potential spikes in summer temperatures and prevent power disruptions. Moreover, Esmat affirmed the importance of continuous collaboration between all relevant state entities, especially the two ministries, to guarantee electricity security throughout the high-demand summer months. He added that the government is pressing ahead with its national energy strategy, which includes diversifying power generation sources, expanding renewable energy use, and deploying storage technologies—both grid-connected and standalone—to stabilise the network during peak periods. The meeting also addressed the electricity sector's initiatives to improve operational efficiency, enhance fuel utilisation, reduce reliance on conventional fuels, and elevate overall system performance as part of the state's broader sustainable development plan.
