Egypt, Djibouti break ground for solar power plant in Arta
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 12 - 06 - 2025

Egypt and Djibouti held a ceremony in the capital Djibouti City to lay the foundation stone for a solar power station in the village of Omar Kaja, located in the Arta region.
The project is being implemented jointly by Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Djibouti's Ministry of Energy, with funding from the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and execution by the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation.
The initiative is part of the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's visit to Djibouti in April, reflecting the deep brotherly relations between the two countries.
Djiboutian Minister of Energy in charge of Natural Resources Dr Younis Ali Gedi attended the event, alongside Major General Mohamed Osama Issa, Undersecretary of Egypt's Ministry of Electricity, representatives from the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation, and the governor of Arta region.
The Egyptian Embassy in Djibouti had earlier arranged a visit for a delegation from Egypt's Electricity Ministry and relevant companies from June 15 to 17. The visit highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. The Omar Kaja solar power plant marks the first step in joint energy projects between the two sides.
During the visit, the Egyptian delegation held fruitful talks with the Djiboutian side, led by the energy minister, to discuss potential projects, including developing Djibouti's electricity grid and expanding the wind power plant in Ghoubet.
