Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Cairo's commitment to resolving the crisis in Sudan, stressing the need to end bloodshed, ease civilian suffering, and preserve Sudan's unity and state institutions. He highlighted Egypt's efforts to support a swift settlement to the conflict and its active participation in mediation tracks and peace initiatives. During a meeting on Wednesday with European Union Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber, on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum, Abdel-Aty discussed political and security challenges facing the region. He called for intensified international and regional efforts to address these threats, including combating terrorism and extremism. The two sides also reviewed the situation in Somalia and means of supporting peace and stability by reinforcing state institutions and upholding the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Discussions included the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the new AU-led mission AUSSOM. Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of ensuring sustainable funding for the mission and noted Egypt's intention to contribute forces as part of its broader commitment to stabilising Somalia. He also underscored the importance of safeguarding international maritime corridors and promoting regional cooperation among Red Sea littoral states to secure freedom of navigation. He warned that any threat to Red Sea security would directly impact the global economy, especially given the region's mounting challenges. For her part, EU envoy Annette Weber praised Egypt's pivotal role in promoting stability across the Horn of Africa. She affirmed the European Union's keenness to continue consultation and coordination with Egypt on regional files to support peace and security in the region.
