Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty highlighted the positive momentum generated by the visit of Australia's Governor-General to Cairo in April 2025, noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. During a phone call on Wednesday with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Abdel-Aty congratulated his counterpart on her continued tenure following Australia's recent federal parliamentary elections. He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing them to broader horizons. Abdel-Aty expressed interest in convening the next round of political consultations between Egypt and Australia and called for boosting trade and investment relations. He pointed to Egypt's market advantages and incentives, stressing the country's interest in attracting investment in key sectors, particularly green hydrogen. The foreign minister also reviewed regional developments, especially the war in Gaza. He underscored Egypt's mediation efforts in cooperation with the United States and Qatar and warned that continued Israeli military operations would lead to further bloodshed and deepen the catastrophic humanitarian crisis faced by the Palestinian people. He reiterated that the only path to lasting peace lies in the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
