Asia-Pacific markets fell on Monday as President Trump announced plans to increase steel import tariffs to 50 per cent from Wednesday. Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped by 1.30 per cent to end the day at 37,470.67, and the Topix index also decreased by 0.87 per cent to 2,777.29. South Korea's Kospi closed at 2,698.97, while the Kosdaq rose 0.81 per cent to 740.29 before the June 3 presidential election. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 fell by 0.24 per cent to end the day at 8,414.1.
