Asia-Pacific markets had a mixed trading day on Wednesday as investors analysed a range of important economic data from the region. Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 0.57 per cent to close at 36,045.38, and the Topix added 0.63 per cent to close at 2,667.29. South Korea's Kospi fell 0.34 per cent to 2,556.61, while the Kosdaq dropped 1.27 per cent to 717.24. The Australian S&P/ASX 200 rose by 0.69 per cent to close at 8,126.2. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index increased by 0.51 per cent to close at 22,119.41. While China's CSI 300 declined by 0.12 per cent to 3,770.57 due to China's manufacturing activity dropping more than expected in April, entering contractionary territory.
