Egypt's Ministry of Industry announced on Sunday that Damietta Alliance, the operator of the Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal, is advancing the superstructure development at Damietta Port, according to a Cabinet statement. The update highlighted that the terminal has received five large quay cranes for container handling, with 12 more on the way. These cranes, manufactured by China's Qingdao Haixi Heavy-duty Machinery Co., Ltd (HHMC), are set to enhance efficiency in loading and unloading operations. In addition, the terminal's trading yards are equipped with 40 state-of-the-art electric yard cranes. These eco-friendly machines align with Egypt's 2030 sustainable development vision by reducing carbon emissions. The Tahya Misr 1 Container Terminal is a major infrastructure project, featuring 1,970 metres of quay space and a depth of 18 metres. With a sprawling 1 million square metre yard and a handling capacity of 3.5 million TEUs, it is set to be a key asset. The terminal is being developed in partnership with Damietta Alliance, which includes Eurogate Germany, Conchip Italy, and Hapag-Lloyd. This terminal plays a vital role in Egypt's logistics network, alongside the Tanta-Damietta railway line, Damietta Dry Port, and Damietta Port, supporting the government's vision to position the country as a regional transport and trade hub.
