The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Group General Guide Mohammed Mahdi Akef has said that the group will send a delegation to Sudan in solidarity with the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir after the International Criminal Court (ICC)'s arrest warrant against him. This comes after the Muslim Brotherhood of Jordan formed a delegation to meet with the Sudanese Ambassador in Amman. Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Akef said an MB delegation would travel to Sudan to support al-Bashir, who is facing a plot led by Western interests against the Arab and Islamic world, as he put it. Akef declined to reveal the number or the names of the delegation members or the time of departure. For his part, the Vice-Chairman of the MB parliamentary bloc Hussein Ibrahim said that the bloc has no intention to form a delegation to travel to Sudan.
A delegation headed by Saad al-Katatni, head of the MB parliamentary bloc, and other five MB MPs traveled to Sudan at the start of the crisis between the ICC and al-Bashir, Ibrahim said, adding that the bloc issued a statement condemning the ICC decision.
Ibrahim described the decision as arbitrary, adding it revealed international double standards. What is funny is that the ICC ignores the Israeli mass murders against the Palestinians and issues a decision against al-Bashir, he said.
Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm two days ago, all members of the MB Guidance Bureau ruled out that they would travel to Sudan, but Akef decided yesterday to form a delegation for this very purpose without revealing details.
