Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Amin Abaza said Egypt and Sudan are discussing plans to cultivate grain on two million feddans of land on the Egyptian-Sundanese border. The land in question lies in Wadi Haifa, with approximately 650,000 of the feddans in southern Egypt and 350,000 in northern Sudan. The land will be used for the production of grain, animal breeding and other joint projects, and potential agricultural contracts will provide wheat to the Egyptian market. Abaza also plans to discuss other programs of cooperation and integration with Sudanese officials during an upcoming visit to Sudan on 23 February, he said. Meanwhile, Egypt plans to continue importing high-quality meat from Ethiopia to increase supply in the Egyptian market, said Abaza. El-Sharkia Company for Tobacco is also exploring the possibility of growing tobacco in Ethiopia, as the Egyptian government has turned downel-Sharkia's request to grow tobacco in Egypt. Cooperation with the Nile Basin countries is a priority for Egypt, said Abaza, citing the Egypt-Uganda relationship as an example. Translated from the Arabic Edition.
