Egypt's High Elections Committee (HEC) announced the results of the parliamentary elections' first round of the second phase, Al-Bawaba News reported Wednesday. In its press conference, HEC revealed that the total valid ballots reached 7,839,000 recording 29,83 percent, pointing out that the South Sinai governorate witnessed the highest turnout by 41 percent. A total of 55,606,578 Egyptians are eligible to vote in the elections. 27,402,353 were eligible to vote during the first phase, while 28,204,225 were eligible in the second. A total of 282 parliamentary seats were up for competition in the second phase, with 222 seats for independent candidates and 60 seats allocated to party-based lists.The committee announced that 99 constituencies out of 102 will witness a run-off round on the individual seats. On the other hand, witnessed a delay in launching its activities, HEC added, revealing that few violation cases were monitored of which had been transmitted to prosecution for review. HEC also reported a number of electoral violations on the first day of polls. The violations include the delayed opening of 93 polling stations out of 1,2496 nationwide, administrative errors, illegal campaigning and the prevention of some electoral observers from entering polling stations.
