Egyptian Antiquities Minister, Mamdouh Al-Damati inaugurated the temporary fair organized by the Egyptian museum in association with the Flemish Institute in Cairo (NFIC), Al-Bawaba News reported Sunday. The 2-month fair titled ‘Steps Through Ages-Footwear in Ancient Egypt' will display 47 different models of footwear since the pre-historic age till the Ottomans period (3000 b.c.-19th century). ‘It's a unique fair. It reflects the nature of ancient Egyptians' daily life across 5000 years.' Al-Damati said pointing out that NFIC director, Andres Vladimir has been researching about the footwear in ancient Egypt for 10 years. The fair displays the evolution of sandals' models, raw materials, techniques used in the footwear production, symbolism associated with them, as well as the social status, the economic situation, and the cultural concepts of the ancient Egyptians.
