A security source within the Ministry of Interior told Al Bawaba News Saturday that the fight against illegal immigration is at the forefront of the ministry's priorities. The source who spoke to Al Bawaba on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the authorities concerned combating illegal immigration in Egypt has taken several strict measures to prevent infiltration across the Mediterranean Sea and outside the border. The growth of the phenomenon caught the focus of the ministry, thus making it a top priority to the ministry, the source added. Minister of Interior, Magdy Abdel Ghaffar has issued instructions within the context of fighting organized crime, which has succeeded in reducing the phenomenon of illegal immigration during the recent period, according to the source. The source explained that this success was achieved as a result of properly securing airports, land and seaports across the country, as well as the use of the latest technology by the security forces in the fight against crimes such as smuggling and falsification of passports. The ministry welcomed the development of security cooperation with relevant agencies within the European Union, especially exchanging of relevant information, in order to effectively combat illegal immigration, the source confirmed.
