Security sources said a police sergeant was shot dead Thursday in Fayoum province, southern Egypt, Al Bawaba News reported. Gamal Hussein, 35, was shot dead near the entrance of Senuras city, Fayoum during an intensified exchange of fire, the sources said. The incident comes a day after a string of deadly blasts against more than 15 checkpoints in the restive Sinai Peninsula, claiming dozens of police personnel. Police officials in Fayoum said it had not yet been confirmed whether the shooting was a terrorist attack.
