Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Hefny met with executives from South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) on Monday to discuss opportunities for international cooperation in developing and operating Egyptian airports, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said. During the meeting at the ministry's headquarters, IIAC officials detailed their experience managing over 30 major airports worldwide, including Seoul's Incheon and Istanbul's airports, highlighting expertise in airport operations, investment zone development, and public-private partnerships. Minister Hefny emphasised Egypt's expanding civil aviation sector and the government's plan to open 11 airports for private sector management and operation, with Hurghada International Airport set to be the first to transition by year-end. The ministry is working with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to attract global investors and modernise airport infrastructure to meet rising passenger demand. "We seek strategic partnerships that enhance Egypt's airport capabilities and align with the expected growth in travel and tourism," Minister Hefny said, underscoring the country's readiness to offer investment opportunities to international firms. Chaiwoo Lee, Executive Director of the Overseas Business Group at IIAC, praised Egypt's potential as a regional aviation hub and expressed the corporation's commitment to supporting Egypt through consultancy and joint investment projects aimed at boosting the country's competitiveness. The discussions come amid Egypt's broader strategy to strengthen its position as a key regional center for air transport and economic development through enhanced airport infrastructure and international collaboration.
