Egypt's trade with Jordan exceeded $1 billion in 2024, up from $734 million four years earlier, driven by gains in tourism, labour mobility and joint investment, according to a report from the Egyptian planning ministry on Tuesday. Jordanian arrivals to Egypt surged almost sixfold to 245,000 last year from 42,450 in 2020, the report said. Labour ties also deepened, with the two governments upgrading an electronic recruitment system to streamline hiring of Egyptian workers in Jordan's construction, services and industrial sectors. The findings were released alongside the 33rd session of the Egyptian–Jordanian Joint Higher Committee in Amman, which reviewed cooperation in agriculture, transport, housing, aviation, pharmaceuticals, water resources, small business and capital markets. Since its launch in 1985, the committee has overseen more than 170 accords across sectors including energy, tourism, culture and health. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
