Published in Daily News Egypt on 05 - 08 - 2023

Expert-level preparatory meetings for the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee launched in Amman, Jordan on Saturday, August 5. The meetings will run through August 7.
The joint committee is being held in light of the commitment of both countries to strengthen relations in various fields, especially economic, trade and investment, to advance joint development efforts.
The delegation of experts is scheduled to be headed by the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation, and from the Jordanian side by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.
It will witness the participation of many representatives of relevant authorities and ministries, including Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Electricity and Renewable Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Trade and Industry, Health and Population, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, transportation, education and technical education, supply and internal trade, labour, finance and civil aviation, the Central Bank, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Arab Organization for Industrialization and the National Organization for Social Insurance, and other entities, and their counterparts from the Jordanian side.
The committee will complete its meetings on Sunday, August 6, where preparatory meetings will be held at the ministerial level, chaired by Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation on the Egyptian side, and Yousef Mahmoud Al Shamali, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labor on the Jordanian side, before the conclusion of the meetings of the higher committee headed by the prime ministers of the two countries.
The delegations of experts from the two countries will discuss the various priority areas of cooperation by the two countries, and the documents proposed to be signed during the work of the Joint Higher Committee to enhance bilateral cooperation and build on the successful convening of 30 sessions of the joint committee over the past decades.
The 30th session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee was held in February 2022, chaired by Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and Bisher Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan. The joint committee witnessed the signing of the first memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of logistical areas and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of agriculture.
It also included an executive program in the field of higher education, the executive program for cooperation between the two sides in the field of youth for 2022-2024, and a cooperation protocol between the two sides in the media field.
It is worth noting that the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee is the most regular of the joint committees in convening since its launch in 1985. It has played a major role in strengthening joint relations at all levels between Egypt and Jordan, where 30 sessions were held over the course of four decades.
It has dozens of documents in various fields that have greatly reflected on the indicators of economic, commercial, investment and cultural cooperation between the two countries. Moreover, a number of technical committees in various fields emerged from this committee to regulate the progress of work and solve all obstacles that may impede efforts to strengthen joint cooperation relations.
The meetings of the Egyptian-Jordanian Joint Higher Committee are an important opportunity for the two countries to discuss ways to further enhance their cooperation and to build on the strong foundation that has been laid over the past four decades. The committee is expected to produce a number of important agreements and declarations that will help to strengthen the relationship between Egypt and Jordan and to promote regional cooperation.
