Egyptian security sources said a Palestinian national was shot, injured and arrested Tuesday while attempting to illegally enter Rafah City through the borders with the Gaza Strip, Al Bawaba News reported. Al Barahma military border checkpoint personnel detained the Palestinian infiltrator after shooting him in the left shoulder, Al Bawaba quoted the sources as saying. "The detainee, 26, is currently hospitalized in the Rafah Hospital under military surveillance," the sources added. According to Egyptian intelligence reports, a large number of Islamist militants have infiltrated the Sinai Peninsula from the Gaza Strip via tunnels since 2011 to carry out terrorist attacks, accusations that the Hamas Movement repeatedly rejected. An Egyptian court designated late February Hamas and its military wing Al Kassam Brigades as terrorist organizations, the Egyptian government appealed the verdict.
