A NEW sports law in Egypt is on the negotiations table of Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif. In a meeting between Nazif and President of the National Sports Council (NSC) Hassan Sakr, the project for a new sports law was submitted and discussed. The project aims at creating a sports revolution in Egypt. According to Magdi Radi, the prime minister's spokesman, the project aims at reviving and developing sports in the country in a number of ways, including on coordination between different sports regulations which rule sports affairs in Egypt and international legislations. Radi added that the new project for a sports law will be handed over to the Peoples' Assembly and the Shura Council after being passed by Cabinet. The spokesman also revealed that Sakr has also submitted other sports projects to Nazif concerning the establishment of new sports centres, including sports and training facilities for sportsmen and the public. There would also be a possibility to rent such facilities to schools and other sports clubs or federations for training and matches. According to Radi, the prime minister recommended the creation of similar centres across Egypt's governorates so that all Egyptians can benefit from the project. Another national project was submitted to Nazif, aimed at nurturing and developing talented sportsmen and women, in a bid to identify and prepare the champions of the future in the different sports. This project will involve several ministries including the ministries of health, education, national development and defence. Further, Cabinet discussed the report on the overall failure of Egyptian sports in the 2008 Olympic Games held last August in Beijing, China. The report was presented by Mofied Shehab, minister of parliamentary affairs and head of the investigation committee.
