El-Badry tests 59 players in first camp with Egypt U-23 team In preparation for the 2015 CAF Championship, 59 under-23 players will be tested by new coach Hossam El-Badry
Egyptian under-23 team coach Hossam El-Badry has announced a 59-man squad for the Young Pharaohs first training camp under his guidance beginning 17 February. The camp, scheduled as the start of preparations for the 2015 CAF Championship qualifiers, will see El-Badry with his squad for the first time since he took charge in November 2013. According to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) official website Saturday, El-Badry has divided the 59-man squad into two groups. The first will include 35 players who will start the camp from 17 until 19 February. They will then will be reassessed to chose who will remain until the camp ends. A second group of 24 players will join the camp from 19 February until the end, and will also be assessed to find the best of them. The 53-year-old coach El-Badry is supposed to lead the Olympic Pharaohs until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Egypt qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London for the first time in 20 years, but were knocked out of the quarter-finals after slumping to a 3-0 defeat to Japan under former coach Hany Ramzy. Upon his appointment, El-Badry vowed to build a new generation of skilled players to aid the seniors team in their bid to reach the 2018 World Cup. El-Badry previously led Egyptian giants Ahly to Egyptian Premier League and African Champion League titles. He then coached Libya's Ahly, but left the country recently over security concerns in Tripoli.
