Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty met his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and the latest developments on Iran's nuclear programme, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement. The talks also reviewed Egypt's efforts to facilitate cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Both ministers welcomed the recent pace of contacts between Cairo and Tehran and expressed interest in boosting cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, the statement added. Regional issues, including the war in Gaza, featured prominently in the talks. The ministers called for an immediate halt to Israel's offensive, the entry of humanitarian aid, and rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians. On the nuclear file, Abdel-Atty stressed the need for continued efforts to create conditions for a "satisfactory and sustainable settlement" between Iran and the IAEA that serves the interests of all parties, reduces tensions and supports regional stability.
