The newly-appointed manager for the Egyptian Under-23 team, Hossam El-Badey, said that he seeks to help the senior Pharaohs in their bid to reach the 2018 World Cup. Along with expressing his delight over being chosen for the post, the 53-year-old coach said that he will be trying to build a new generation of skilled players to aid the seniors' team in their next World Cup bid. He was chosen for the position by The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and will lead the Olympic Pharaohs until the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. It was rumoured that El-Badey had reportedly been on the shortlist to succeed American Bob Bradley as Egypt's senior team coach. The EFA eventually appointed Shawky Gharib as the Pharaoh's new manager. Under Bradley, the senior team failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after losing to Ghana 7-3 on aggregate in the playoffs. El-Badey said that he will soon inform the football association of his choices for assistants. "I want to pick names who can give new accomplishments to Egyptian football," he said. El-Badry has previously led Egyptian giants Ahly to Egyptian Premier League and African Champion League titles. He then coached Libya's Ahly, but left the country recently over security concerns in Tripoli.
