Ahly's Ekramy out of Club WCup test, Abou-Treika worries Monterrey boss
Ekramy adds woes for Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry, but Monterrey coach says veteran playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika represents biggest threat
Published in Ahram Online on 15 - 12 - 2012

Ahly goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy will miss Sunday's clash against Mexico's Monterrey in the third-place play-off of the Club World Cup's competition due to injury, the Cairo giants announced on Saturday.
Ekramy sustained a hamstring strain during Ahly's 1-0 loss to Corinthians in the Club World Cup semis and was replaced by Mahmoud Abul-Seoud.
"Ekramy underwent an intensive rehabilitation programme but the pain persisted. He will not be available for the Monterrey clash," Ahly reveals in a statement in its official website.
The Red Devils Defense midfielder Hossam Ashour was also doubtful for the anticipated match as he suffers from a pelvis injury, but there is still a hope that he could boost the club's midfield.
"Ashour is now better but we preferred to keep him out of Saturday's training session. He could play against Monterrey if the technical staff so chose," Ahly's doctor Ehab Ali explained.
Abou-Treika is the biggest danger
On the other side, Monterrey boss Victor Manuel Vecetich has described playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika as the biggest threat among Ahly players.
"We will not try only to stop the threat of Abou-Treika, but also we will confront him with special tactics," Vecetich was quoted as saying by Ahly official website.
Alongside Ekramy, Ahly is already suffering the absence of defensive midfielder Hossam Ghaly because of a serious knee injury.
"I am not counting on the holes in the Ahly squad because the most important thing is to impose our style to win the game," concluded Vecetich.
African champions, Ahly, claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the tournament's opener over Japan's Sanfrecce Hiroshima to qualify for the semi-final where they were defeated 1-0 to Brazil's Corinthians.
