Presidential office explains oddly-timed meeting with SCAF A presidential statement says meeting between Morsi and SCAF was to discuss training of military officers
The presidential office reveals that President Morsi met the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) on Saturday morning before the military funeral of ex-spy chief, Omar Suleiman, to speak on the training of military officers. The head of the SCAF - and arguably the most powerful man in Egypt during the transition period - Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi was in attendance, as well as Chief of Staff Sami Anan. The statement stressed the importance of such trainings and the development of the military officers' skills to SCAF members and the president. After the oddly-timed morning meeting, Morsi did not attend the funeral, but instead sent a delegate to represent the presidential office.
