Egyptian President Morsi does not attend funeral of ex-spy chief; sends delegate instead The newly-elected President Morsi does not attend the funeral of the controversial former head of intelligence, instead sends delegate
President Mohamed Morsi has delegated the presidential Grand Chamberlain General Abdel-Moemen Fouda to attend the funeral of ex-spy chief Omar Suleiman. Ambiguity as to whether Morsi will attend the funeral of Suleiman, a much condemned figure amongst revolutionary and Islamist movements, has been looming since the news of the ex-spy chief's death. Suleiman is known to be the mastermind behind Mubarak's attempts to crush both militant and peaceful Islamist groups in Egypt under the 30-year rule of his regime. Meanwhile at the funeral, Suleiman supporters carry banners slamming Morsi, calling him a "foreign agent."
