Qualifying campaign: Despite playing only one of three home fixtures in Tripoli due to fighting between pro and anti-Muammar Gaddafi forces, Libya finished second in their qualifying campaign, going through to the 2012 CAN after booking one of two places reserved for the best runners-up of the qualifiers. History: Libya made only two CAN appearances in 1982 and 2006. They hosted the 1982 edition and finished as runners-up, and failed to get beyond the group stage at the 2006 edition in Egypt. Expectations: Libya will hope to continue on their fairy tale during the finals. The team lacks of high profiles stars as the squad includes local-based players and some expatriates in a few other Arab leagues. However they will count on their high spirit after being united under their new flag to compete with Zambia, Senegal and co-hosts Equatorial Guinea because no one in this group is above the competition.
