Uganda team roars ahead of anticipated Ghana clash
Published in Ahram Online on 04 - 10 - 2017

Uganda goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango has shown confidence ahead of the anticipated African 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ghana on Saturday in Kampala.
“It [the group] is still open. I think it will go until the last game, but it's important for us to win the game, which is against Ghana at home, and put pressure on Egypt because they are playing away against Ghana in the last game. Ghana won't make it easy for them,” Onyango told Kickoff Wednesday.
Uganda are currently second in Group E with seven points, two less than Egypt, who are hosting bottom side Congo a day later.
“So for us it's all about winning our remaining games and to see how far we can go because no one gave us a chance. We have surprised everyone,” the Mamelodi Sundowns star added.
We don't care about Ghana squad: Uganda coach
Uganda coach Moses Basena has shown similar confidence, stressing that the Cranes are targeting nothing less than victory over the Black Stars.
“We do not care who is coming and who is not coming to play against us on Saturday. All we know is that we are playing against the Black Stars of Ghana and we are going all out for a win,” Basena commented on the reported absence of some of his opponents' key players, including Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan.
“We will not underestimate them even if they are missing Gyan and Ayews, we saw what some unknown Ghana players did against Congo in the last round of qualifiers. We are taking the game seriously,” he concluded.
To secure their first-ever World Cup ticket, Uganda need to win their two remaining games with a hope that Egypt loses at least once; especially as Ghana are hosting Egypt in the last round.
