The Jordan Football Association (JFA) has issued a statement regretting the "out-of-line" behaviour of players and officials from Jordanian club Al-Faisaly in the final of the Arab Club Championship (ACC) in Alexandria on Sunday. The JFA expressed dispproval at the physical assault on the referee after a disputed extra-time goal that put Tunisia's Esperance ahead 3-2, handing them the match and the tournament. Egyptian referee Ibrahim Nour El-Din was assaulted by players and technical staff, forcing police to intervene. "The association regrets the incidents that occurred after the final game. What happened conflicts with our ethics and the traditions of which we are proud," read the JFA statement published on Tuesday. "The JFA are in communication with the Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) to make further investigations into the totally unacceptable manners," the JFA said. The association also hailed the cooperation between Arab nations in putting together the tournament, expressing particular thanks to Egypt. Meanwhile, Egyptian Sports Minister Khaled Abdel-Aziz said that he had received an official apology from his Jordanian counterpart on behalf of the Al-Faisaly contingent. Media reports on Monday suggested that the UAFA is considering sanctions against Al-Faisaly, who could be banned from taking part in future ACC tournaments.
