Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who was voted the best African-based player of 2016, has arrived in the Cranes preparatory camp in United Arab Emirates ahead of the 2017 African Cup of Nations games. The Mamelodi Sundowns goalie expressed his pleasure in joining the camp and his eagerness to continue shining with the national team and to achieve his goal of participating in the continental tournament. "I am glad to have joined the rest of the team," Onyango told supersport Sunday. "I have to stay focused and look ahead at the Afcon because it is a huge tournament and I must be on top of my game," Onyango added. "Being the best in Africa I must show that it was not by accident," Onyango said. The Cranes top goalkeeper Onyango helped South African club Mamelodi Sundowns win the CAF Champions League title last October. Uganda are drawn alongside Egypt, Ghana and Mali in Group D of the 2017 African Cup of Nations, which will be played in Gabon from 14 January to 5 February.
